If nature had arranged that husbands and wives should have children alternatively, there would never be more than three in a family.  ~Lawrence Housman

The miracle of pregnancy; from two tiny cells a human is formed.  While some pregnant women float ethereally and blossom during pregnancy, for many the nine months are a litany of nausea, stretch marks, swollen legs, general discomfort and various aches and pains…and that’s before the labour.

But let us help you or someone you know who maybe pregnant.

During pregnancy a woman goes through many physical and chemical changes.  There is the additional weight, the hormone changes and the emotional rollercoaster, all putting stress on the ligaments, muscles, bones, organs and nervous system.  This may exacerbate a pre-existing compliant or can cause a new one.  Chiropractic care during pregnancy may:

  1. Ease any pelvic (including pubic symphysis problems) and abdominal discomfort
  2. Relieve back and leg, shoulder, arm and neck painpregnant lady
  3. Control the symptoms of nausea
  4. Prevent a potential C-Section

And possible best of all, Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the length of labour. Research has shown that first time mothers averaged a 24 percent shorter labour, while mothers who have already given birth experienced a 39 percent reduction in the average labour length, compared to controls (Fallon, 1991). Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy can also reduce the likelihood of experiencing back labour (Diakow, 1991). Regular chiropractic adjustments can safely continue up until the time of birth (Penna, 1989).

In order to get the baby into the best possible position for delivery, we need to establish pelvic balance and alignment during pregnancy. When the pelvis is misaligned it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby. This restriction is called intrauterine constraint. This often leads to a breech position and consequently a C-section.

One of the first questions asked not only by pregnant patients but by all patients is: Is it safe? The answer is: Yes – it is absolutely safe. Remember that Chiropractic does not involve taking any drugs and is totally non-invasive. That means that Chiropractors do not put anything in to the body and they do not take anything out of the body.

So when is the best time to come and visit us? Ideally preconception, as the nervous system controls the reproductive organs and keeping the spine healthy may help with conception.  But if you are already pregnant come and visit us straight away, even if you do not have any obvious issues.  A major part of our care is the preventative aspect.  Many of our pregnant ladies who have received care during their pregnancies reported:
