chiropractic care for babies and children
Being born is of course a natural process. It’s what modern birthing methods have done to the process that’s increasingly having an effect on our newborns. A recent AIMS (Association for the Improvement of Maternity Services) study showed that in Ireland interventions for first time mothers were “worryingly high” and many without any “medical reason”. This not only may affect the baby but also impact on future pregnancies that the mother may have.
Even natural births can stress a baby’s spine. Feeding problems, both breast and bottle can arise if the baby is unable to comfortably turn its head.
As your baby grows and matures regular check-ups are helpful to monitor spinal development as it sits upright, learns to crawl and take their first wobbly steps. Our chiropractors believe that uncorrected spinal problems during this early stage of development cause the chronic, hard-to-correct spinal restrictions seen in adults and may have additional health implications, limiting your child’s ability to reach their full potential.
Many babies suffer unnecessarily with:
- Unexplained crying
- Lack of appetite
- Frequent ear infections
- Flat head syndrome
or other signs of poor health, which can relate to altered nervous system function/spinal motion.
Many parents worry that adjustments will hurt their baby. Rest assured that the care we provide for babies varies greatly from that administered to adults. The force used is similar to that you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Our chiropractic care for babies and children is safe, gentle and effective.
